We are here for you whether you are worried something is wrong with your pet, or simply want to make sure you are doing everything to keep them happy and healthy.

New ownership

As of October 1st 2014, John and Laura Mather have taken on the running of 'Greenbay Veterinary Surgery' following the retirement of Mrs Turner. We are a local family, who with our team of familiar staff, will continue to provide you and your pets with excellent service.

Paignton Branch

As well as our main surgery in Torquay we also have a branch at 79 Kingsway Avenue, Paignton, TQ4 7AB. Here you and your pet can have a consultation with the veterinary surgeon and we can also perform routine operations.

Cat Friendly Clinic

We are proud to have been awarded Cat Friendly Clinic status.  This is an internationally recognised award and it means that we have met criteria to ensure all the needs of your cat are met.  We are the first and only practice in Torbay to achieve this accreditation.  To find out more visit www.catfriendlyclinic.org.

I recently moved to lovely devon from London with my dog- Angel. Like many dogs she wasn't overly impressed with the move but she LOVED the new walks we were experiencing. On one walk she was bounding around and saw a fox (which she chased unfortunately) and followed it out of the field and straight across a road and was hit by a car! I cannot express how devastated I was, I had no idea what to do or where to go! The man who was driving the car helped me pick Angel up and suggested we took her straight to his vets - Greenbay. One of Angel's front legs was dangling at an odd angle and she was bleeding from several cuts around her mouth. She seemed in shock and did not even attempt to stand up or struggle. As any owner can imagine I was in a hysterical state - crying, talking absolute rubbish and shouting at anyone who tried to calm me down! The man drove us straight to Greenbay and helped me carry her into a waiting room full of people. I told the receptionist what had happened as best I could, and she immediately spoke to one of the nurses. The nurse and I carried Angel into the consulting room for the vet to look at her. The vet was very gentle with Angel and examined her without hurting her. She also did her best to calm me down (not easy!) and explained that Angel had broken her leg. After a lot of tears on my part we discussed what needed to be done and Angel was admitted to have her leg xrayed and the cuts on her face stitched up. Once the vet had taken her to the kennels I had a few minutes to calm down, the nurse re-assured me again and told me to go home and they would be in contact very soon. I got home and rang the surgery straight away to check how she was- no one got upset with me ringing them and they re-assured me again and said that the vet would be in touch as soon as she knew more. I was so worried about poor Angel but at least felt she was in good hands at this surgery. I then got the phone call I had been waiting for from the vet - sadly Angel's leg was so badly broken that it was best to amputate it as it wouldn't be possible to get the break to heal. The vet rang me back later and to my delight she informed me that Angel's surgery had gone well and she was waking up. They wanted to keep her in for a few days for observations, which as she was my baby was unbearable! The house was so empty without Angel, but I cannot praise the nurses enough for keeping me up to date with how she was doing. I ended up phoning 4 or 5 times a day! I'm sure it was annoying - but honestly none of the staff minded at all. They were all extremely helpful, polite and always smiling- I felt so comfortable talking to the receptionists, nurses and the vets, I was made to feel as if nothing was too much trouble and they all really cared about Angel. My precious Angel seemed so happy, and comfortable in the surgery - which made me much more content. When Angel came home it was wonderful, but she needed alot of care for the first couple of weeks. The nurses were great at giving me all the instructions about her medication and how to help her get used to only having 3 legs. They said I could call if I was worried (and i did call probably two or three times a week!) and the receptionists were really helpful. Angel has recovered well from her trauma and is coping brilliantly on her 3 legs. I am still upset when I think about the accident but at least my Angel got the care she needed rapidly! Thank goodness she survived. I cannot praise the staff at Greenbay Vets enough - they were so helpful and caring towards Angel, and very supportive to me when I was so upset. I would definitely recommend this vets and they are now Angel's registered practice!

I have been taking the familys pets to Greenbay for many years now. Have always received excellant service from all the staff, and are always willing to help. Recently had to call a vet out late in the evening as my cat was acting 'strange'. Turned out he couldn't urinate and would have died if left! Greenbay were straight there and unblocked him, and saved his life. 10 out of 10 for Greenbay!!

I took my rabbit to greenbay veterinary surgery as he was having difficulty lifting his back legs. I had already been about a month previously and he had been prescribed critical care form and been kept in for half a day. He got better and i was told if he started to deteriorate then to bring him back in. He started having difficulty lifting his back legs again so i took him back in, although this time it wasnt the vet i usually ask for. This vet acted very dismissive and as though i was making a mountain out of a molehill. My rabbit died about a month later and my new veterinary surgery (silverton) told me he had died of internal bleeding onto his spine, causing paralysis. I wrote a letter of complaint to Greenbay and had a reply saying that the vet i saw is very thorough (which from my experience she is not) and that they had contacted silverton veterinary surgery and had been informed that he had died due to a parasite called Encephalitozoon Cuniculi. This i find hard to believe as silverton told me he died due to internal bleeding (and why would they lie?)and also because i always gave him panicur paste every 3 months, which is used to help aid prevention of this parasite. Greenbay has always been very expensive but as we always recieved great service from our favourite vet my family would rather pay more for better care for our animals. Since this incident me and my family have moved to silverton vets which is twice as good and half the price!
